Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly hails from North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. With a deep-rooted passion for family law, Ashley's present legal practice is focused on a variety of aspects of family-related matters. She focuses her practice on divorce cases, alimony disputes, marital property division, child custody battles and child support arrangements. She also deals with the post-divorce and enforcement of issues such as step-parent adoptions and private party adoptions, as and concerns regarding child welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning issues, such as trusts, wills and probate and estate administration in addition to commercial contract, civil litigation cases. Ashley has been as a mediator appointed by the court since the year 2019 helping parties to help to resolve their issues without need for litigation and court involvement. In addition to mediation mandated by the court, Ashley also mediates in private cases for individuals who would like to avoid the litigation and court process.
After finishing her undergraduate education at Loyola University of Maryland, where she received two bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was placed among the top 10 students of her class. Ashley was an Editor of the Notes at the Western New England Law Review during her time at law school. This demonstrated her commitment to scholarship and legal research.
Following the completion of her law degree, Ashley embarked on a clerkship program, working with notable jurists in Connecticut and Maryland. She was fortunate to serve as a law assistant to the Honorable Richard A. Robinson at the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott. In 2014, she returned to Hagerstown, Maryland, to serve as an attorney for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long, Washington County Circuit Court. In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. as an associate attorney. Her main focus at the firm was representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in cases involving child welfare. Ashley's dedication to her work played a significant role in helping children who suffered in the face of neglect or abuse at hands their parents or caregivers. Her dedication to social justice spanned beyond her legal profession as she actively served as an executive member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force working tirelessly to educate the public about human trafficking within the tri-state area.
In 2017, she was a founding member of Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., where she developed her practice in the area of family law including divorce, child support, custody, and guardianships as well as estate planning - wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directive/healthcare proxy - and mediation.
